How to: Perfect Liner

Winged liner is my favorite everyday look because, if done correctly, it can provide volume and thickness to the lashes without being too over the top. My favorite eyeliner is in the gel formulation and I am currently using the Loreal Lacquer Liner in 171 Blackest Black. I find that this is the easiest to apply and can give a clean line, which pencil can't. These three steps will help you achieve your best liner look yet!

Step 1: Use eyeliner brush (pointed or angled), to create a straight line (at your desired length), from the outer corner of your eye. (The straight teal line on the diagram)

Tip: To figure out what angle to create your line, imagine if you were continuing your natural lower lash line. Use that as your guide.

Step 2: From the end of your top eyelid (not the end of the line you just drew), line your upper lash line to the inner tear duct. This is where you can decide how bold you want to go. The thicker the line, the more dramatic. (The dashed teal line on the diagram. Starting from the end of the eyelid)

Tip: If you mess up while doing your eyeliner, use a cotton swab dipped in makeup remover to clean the desired area. That way, you don't have to start all over.

Step 3: Finally, connect the line on your lid to the end of the wing, working your way outwards. That way, you will have a more precise tip to your eye liner.

Tip: Wait until eyeliner dries to apply eyeshadow, curl lashes, or apply mascara. This will prevent your perfect liner from smudging. But, if it does, refer to the second tip.

BONUS Tip: If your gel eyeliner starts to dry out, pop it in the microwave for a few seconds to reheat the formula. Once it cools, it will be as good as new! (Make sure to remove any metal parts of the packaging before putting it in the microwave)

Hopefully, this tutorial helped you achieve a great liner look! Many people are intimidated by what appears to be the complexity of winged eyeliner. But, with 3 simple steps, it can be easier than you would think. Thanks for reading!
XO,
Steph
